Challenges of the Ecological Transformation in Brazil

On April 10, 2025, the University of São Paulo hosted the international seminar “Desafios da Transformação Ecológica no Brasil”, bringing together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss the country’s path toward a greener economy. The event featured representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL), labor organizations such as CUT and DIEESE, as well as leaders from the private sector including Siemens Energy and GranBio.

The initiative was part of the international research project "Environmental Consumption, Production, and Voting Preferences: Implications for Structural Transformation in Brazil", funded by the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Marwil J. Dávila-Fernández, Assistant Professor at DEPS and a member of the project team, represented the University of Siena in the event. His participation reflects our commitment to advancing debates on sustainable development, green industrial policy, and a socially just ecological transition in Brazil.
