Game theory and chess practice

From February 14 to 16, the Municipality of Siena will host Siena fa Scacco Matto, a unique event combining chess's charm with art, culture, and education. Organized at the evocative museum complex of Santa Maria della Scala, the event offers three days of meetings, seminars, and tournaments designed to bring everyone—from experts to the curious—closer to the world of chess.

On February 15 at 3 pm, Paolo Pin, professor at the Department of Political Economy and Statistics, will hold the seminar Between saying and doing: Game theory and chess practice, in the Sant'Ansano Room. The presentation will explore the link between game theory, a branch of economics that analyzes strategic decisions, and the practice of chess. Through concrete examples, parallels between the two areas will be shown, such as the analysis of strategies, predicting the opponent's moves and choosing the best actions in competitive contexts.
